I just graduated from high school and I’m thinking about pursuing a career in cybersecurity. However, I have a wide variety of interests and hobbies, mainly MTB racing which takes up around 15 – 16 of training per week. So how is the work / life balance in this field? Since it’s a rapidly evolving field I’m well aware that one has to constantly stay up to date with the latest news, technologies etc… But is it possible to do that within the 40 hours one works a week? Or do you find yourself constantly working over the 40 hours ?
How many holidays a year do you have (I live in Europe so it’s probably longer than in the U.S) ?

I know that cybersecurity is a huge field with a multitude of disiplines within it, so my question would be specific to intrusion detection / Pen Testing. But if there is another disciple which is known for it’s work / life balance I would be interested in checking it out!

Just to clarify I don’t want to get in to this field just because of the money and to work as little as possible.I really have an interest, I grew up reading all of Mitnicks books, Cory Doctrow and worked through networking / linux and coding books for fun. But I just don’t like the thought of being absorbed by one single thing for the rest of my life (Not that there’s anything wrong with that)

Any answers are highly appreciated!
