Just to emphasize, this will work fine as long as you’re using openssl and specify for it the certificate you modified as the CA certificate to be used for validation, more precisely, when you specify your modified certificate as trusted CA certificate for validation, practically speaking, for this to work, you have to designate your modified certificate as trusted / eligible to validate certificate, this can be done on the OS level (for example by importing it to the trusted root certificate authorities store on Windows OS) or on the level of the application you are using (for example by importing it to Firefox “Authorities” part of “Certificates” section in the configuration, actually that’s pretty much what happened with openssl by passing the -CAfile switch)
