Would IAM be a dead end in my career?

Hello, I would like some advice regarding a choice I have to make in my career. I’m an engineer in France with 3 years of experience in development. I have done a little bit of web dev (Spring+angularJs), software dev (java and python) and my longest mission was more oriented data engineering (python/airflow and a big chunk of SQL (bigquery)). I tinkered a bit with DevOps too, mainly Terraform and Gitlab CI.

Now, I want to leave and find a new job. The logical path for me would be Data Engineering, but it doesn’t interest me that much. What I would like to do the most is cybersecurity, like application security or devsecops, or even pentest, but I don’t feel like I got the skills right now.

I got 2 unrelated opportunities :

Web development, with React and Django.

IGA/IAM consultant. The company sells a solution that handles IAM and the job would be meeting the clients, see how their IT is built and configure the solution in consequence. Would require tinkering with SQL, powershell, xml configuration files.

I feel like web dev would be useful experience if I want to work with web security later, obviously. But IAM consultant could maybe be my foot in the door in security, and i could learn useful knowledges like Active Directory, OpenID… But I’m afraid it might be a dead end.

I could use a piece of advice right now. Thanks !
